The Cypress Hills, in Alberta and Saskatchewan just north of the US border, are three plateaus that rise so high above the dry rangeland that they were not covered in the last ice age. They are a surreal landscape, with extreme climate shifts and ancient vegetation that is not seen except in the Rocky Mountains.
These images are the onsite paintings from a trip to the Cypress Hills in 2000 that has inspired years of exploration, learning, and painting including the "As Far As The Eye Can See" series.
